The Phoenix Called Blockchain

The sign of the times is here when it comes to cryptocurrency. The helium is finally being let out of the balloon and reality is setting in. This is very reminiscent of the dot.com bubble with three major distinct and positive differences.

1) The traditional exchanges like NASDAQ and NYSE have not been influenced or impacted by the decline in value of cyrptocurrency. People who have invested have done so through initial coin offerings (ICO’s) and crypto trading platforms, not traditional stock exchanges. When the dot.com market crashed conversely, markets worldwide plunged as a result, because all of the investment was made in the underlying stocks of these dot.com companies.

2) Blockchain, the underlying technology of cryptocurrency has proven to be far more important, valuable, ,and exciting than cryptocurrency itself. Blockchain has the potential for unfathomable possibilities coupled with the unimaginable opportunities to transform economics and how business is transacted forever.

3) There is an enormous amount capital available to be invested. Innovative Blockchain companies have sprung up that are poised to replace today’s mighty titans of the dot.com era. This is a very attractive opportunity for early investors who want to capitalize on this amazing opportunity.

So sad as it may be for as people watching the declining value of their cryptocurrency portfolio, the real play is, and has always been Blockchain, and the amazing projects and companies that will emerge to change the paradigm of business.

I myself am happy that the hype and noise is coming to closure for cryptocurrency. It needed to happen will crypto will always play an important role, but in its ashes, there is a phoenix called Blockchain. Let’s us all marvel and act as it begins to spread its wings.

I Like Coffee and I Like Tea

I use to drink a lot more coffee than I do these days. I would easily consume 2 or more Starbucks Venti coffees before Noon and then enjoy espresso shots in the afternoon. As you can imagine, I wouldn’t sleep very well at night, often needing a glass or two of red wine to relax, then I’d jump right back on the crazy train the next day. This was my routine for many years of my career. It served me well as I managed company growth, teams, projects and technology around the clock. However, a couple years back, I finally decided to break this caffeine intake habit of mine. I gradually cut back and changed things up. I now order a Venti Americano (two shots of espresso and hot water) every morning and then drink tea throughout the rest of the day. I find that tea is much more soothing and still has caffeine which helps me keep my mind sharp, active and alert. I sip many tea varieties and I also prepare custom blends which I brew with a tea set in my office. Its a nice change and much healthier. I feel better, sleep better, and yes… I still drink the occasional glass or two of red wine.

Leadership By Example

Leadership can be taught but its better to be experienced. I have had the good fortune of working with many great leaders over my career and I’ve incorporated many of their best attributes into my own leadership style. The most successful leaders, lead by example, depicting the skills, qualities and competencies that are needed and expected to achieve desired results. Empowering, coaching and mentoring your employees helps them to become their very best. It helps them to realize their potential,  accomplish important goals and objectives, take on even great responsibility, and become valuable assets to your company. Yes, it does takes time, but as they observe you practicing what you preach, you will in turn observe them blossom into leaders themselves.

Projects Large and Small – Team, Culture and Collaboration

Businesses like Mobility Services International (MSI) always have a rich portfolio of projects to work on. These projects can range from very large to very small and everything in between. Most of them are very strategic to our company and need to be run in parallel. It takes a real  interdependent team and culture to successfully drive, manage and complete them to deliver the expected results.. We have managed to knockdown previously established departmental silos and our collective teams= now collaborates and synergistically work together to deliver these projects on time. I like to say “I need you, you need me, and together we need each other”. It is with this mindset, culture and corporate-wide practice that we are able to remain agile and innovative helping both our clients and our company as a result.

Winter to Spring

I don’t know about you but I am very happy for the change of season. We’ve had a nice New England Winter but I’m now welcoming the Spring. Its been nice to have some warm sunny weather and to see the snow melting all around. In the business world it also means that many of our clients have finalized their end-of-year activities, as well as their 2013 budgets, and are ready to get things moving (literally…pun intended). This time of year things really heat up on the relocation and international assignment front for these companies. We look forward to another successful year of helping our clients manage their critical global mobility and talent management initiatives.
